How to boot Sun Fire X from a remote boot disk

====================================================================== * locked out with a broken boot on Sun Fire X * ILOM 3 has the possibility to remote mount CD/DVD emulation image and boot from that - so you would't travel to datacentre to boot from flashstick * java applets used for that are very old, the mechanisms use old ciphers, so you need to downgrade a lot the local machine to make it work * solution: use virtual machine and Windows XP + Internet Explorer.

Linux

-------- tried with linux, RemoteConsole java applet works with: * connect with openvpn to ilom interface of the server * install iced-tea to run .jnlp using javaws: apt install icedtea-netx * ilom-web-ui: remote control > redirection (manual) * localy run (needs icedtea): javaws jnlpgenerator-cli.jnlp - this makes the interface * on another console, run: java -jar StorageRedir.jar test-service for testing the connection java -jar StorageRedir.jar start -r cdrom_img -t /path/to/bootimage.iso -u root ip.add.rre.s for mounting (image has to be iso dvd image (.iso), not flashdisk (.img)) * needs java.security config file to be striped-off the old ciphers deprecation, otherwise it won't negotiate on cipher selection - iloms ciphers are very old * needs 32-bit java, according to the internet, force apt to install 32-bit java * but still error: CD-ROM not supported on this platform - was unable to solve - some people reportedly did * oracle knows about the bug, but the fix is hidden behind support login (shame)

Windows XP, run in VirtualBox

--------------------------------------- * try to find windows xp professional sp3 on some pirate site * install into virtualbox if you use VPN to connect to ILOM: + openVPN for Windows XP run by commandline (cmd) using config file and certs * install java 5 JDK: https://javadl.oracle.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=252321_68ce765258164726922591683c51982c https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp * open web ui of ilom * run java applets as in linux example * change boot device in bios to "ami virtual cd" * reboot * works! * keep the virtual machine and all the software for later usage, it will disappear from the internet, for sure EOF Comments requested ~~~~~~~~~ Binary Sxizophreny - index of comp related stuff Kangaroo's Homepage (czech)
