The stone in Skůry

The name has originated from word Vskury or Skuří; maybe based on Old Bohemian kur (fowl), or kuře (chicken). Already in 10th century Skůry belongs to Budech church; reminded back in 1262; in 1374 its name is Osrád from Vskur maybe a stronghold, castle?; defunct Gothic church sacrificed in 1384 to Saint Bartholomew, the remnants of church´s stone decoration were walled (bricked up) in churchyard wall by Wenceslas Himl from Bratkovice in 1882. These remnants consist of three human head brackets that the ribbing came out therefrom along with a circular bolt having a bearless head of Jesus Christ carved within and watching from crescent.

Its location has been determined based on map retrieval of the local designation
U kamene (Near Stone)
about 800 m to the north from the village center at the elevation of 216 m.



A block of iron (tiger)
sandstone 0,65 x 1,6 x 0,5 m
weighing 1,2 tonnes with clearly visible Sun and Cross engravings.

Nowadays bricked in the graveyard wall in the village.
